A Readers Digest Magazine outlines the benefits

All the benefits of adventure.

A Reader’s Digest showed up in the mail. My partner called from the bathroom, “I didn’t even know that magazine still existed.” I starterd at the issue as it lay on my countertop, amid a heap of my unpacked things from a recent ski weekend. The headline was a grabber: “Be More Adventurous.”

I’m super adventurous. Growing up in a traditional Indian household, where I wasn’t allowed to go to the movies or get ice cream with friends, the pendulum swung the opposite direction when I left home at 18. That element of adventure finds its way into my leadership programming too.

Author Elizabeth Bernstein outlines the benefits of adventure (and it doesn’t have to be jumping out of a plane. It can be as simple as doing a different workout or singing karaoke)

📍 Start Small. A woman yesterday was telling me how she is having trouble rallying to network. Before the pandemic, she was a pro. Start with a small adventure to break your inertia, build your confidence and build to bigger adventures.

📍 Shift how you view anxiety. Can you convert the fear about public speaking or singing karaoke into an opportunity? Get excited! about this thing you are about to do.

📍 Use your Imagination. Visualize the worst case scenario. Could you handle it? Visualize the BEST CASE scenario. Which scenario will likely play out? It helps to put the fear in perspective.

📍 Write yourself a letter. Address your fears like you are talking to your best friend. Validate them in a letter. Then take inventory: What skills do you already have that will help you succeed at this thing you are about to do?

📍 Tap into Regret. I have friends who suffer from mad FOMO. Would you be disappointed if you missed on this interesting thing to do? I know this motivates me ALOT of people.

📍 This tip is my favorite: RELAX about the outcome. If it was perfect, it wouldn’t be an adventure, would it?

I host a #mastermindgroup for women leaders looking to build a personal brand in 2023. And I do my brand of leadership programming with an element of #adventure.

I have one spot left and we kick off this weekend. DM me to learn more.
