Bottling up and Selling Confidence

For a woman in business

In 1999, I was stationed to broadcast on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. My counterparts were all male. I’m a fan of a good chat. I wanted to engage my co-workers with a topic OTHER than work.

So I took myself to a Glen Livet tasting and taught myself a love of scotch and cigars. Both were tropes. What was I really doing with a vast knowledge of malted barley and rolled up tobacco? Developing confidence. Confidence that I could walk into any room, any conversation and hold my own.

Today, I still head up a leadership movement for women. But what am I really offering? I’m selling confidence.

As a result of hosting LadyDrinks events for the last 9 years, I’ve witnessed transformations: Renu asked — no demanded- a promotion. Kimberly raised her prices on the last round of invoices. Meera fired a client that was draining her energy.

The other day, a woman said to me, “Joya, I can’t attend another ‘how to this or that event.’ I’m sick of it. The most successful people in the world are committed to their personal development first.

The events are a mechanism. Different events resonate with different people. But my hope is this: you emerge more confident. To do whatever you want to do.

Women write me everyday, with their problems. But they aren’t sure how to ask for help. Let’s work on that. Starting with this Friday’s event. HOW TO BE A BOURBON BADASS.

I’m seeking a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to ask for it. Confident. Open-minded. Willing to try new things.

Aren’t those parallels for success in business?

Yes.
