Build an Audience on As female business leaders, we face a unique set of challenges when it comes to building our careers. We’re often the only ones in our families or social circles pursuing leadership roles, and that can make it difficult to find mentors, sponsors, and peers who understand our experiences.

That is why we are ecstatic to introduce Amanda Natividad, VP of Marketing for audience research firm SparkToro and a South Asian woman with a nine-year career managing B2C and B2B marketing teams throughout various businesses.

In this virtual fireside chat, Amanda shares her top tips for building an audience on social media, whether you’re just starting out or you’re looking to take your career to the next level.

Amanda on South Asian Women’s Leadership

South Asian women’s leadership is a growing topic of interest worldwide. As South Asian women take on more leadership and entrepreneurial roles, it is important to learn how to market themselves effectively on social media.

“One of the best things South Asian women can do is build an audience on social media,” said Amanda. “It’s a great way to connect with other South Asian women leaders, learn about new opportunities, and get your name out there.”

Amanda’s Top Tips for Building an Audience on Social Media

Define Your Goals

Before you build your audience, it is important to define your goals. What do you want to achieve by building an audience on social media? Do you want to connect with other women in your peer group? Share your work with a wider audience? Or learn about new opportunities?

Getting Started

It’s easy to get caught up in a comparison trap and feel like you’re not doing enough or that you’re not good enough. The best way to get started is simply by planning out the details and starting when you’re truly committed to the process.

Find Your Platform

There are so many social media platforms out there, and it’s overwhelming to be active on all of them. The key is to find the platform or platforms that work best for you and your goals.

To figure out which platform is right for you, consider where your audience is most active. If you’re trying to connect with other South Asian women leaders, for example, LinkedIn would be a good choice. If you’re sharing your work with a wider audience, Twitter or Instagram might be better suited for you.

Amanda also recommends using social media listening tools, such as Hootsuite Insights or Mention, to see where people are talking about you and your work. This can help you figure out where to focus your energy.

Content Ideas

When it comes to content, Amanda says it’s important to mix things up and keep your audience engaged. “I like to post a mix of personal and professional content,” she says. “I’ll post about my work, but I’ll also share pictures from my personal life or things I’m interested in.”

She also recommends using a mix of content formats, such as videos, articles, infographics, and images. And don’t forget to use hashtags. They’re a great way to reach new people and get your content seen by a wider audience.

Authenticity is Key

“One thing I see a lot of South Asian women struggling with is feeling like they have to be perfect,” says Amanda. “But it’s important to remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be successful.”

The key is to be authentic to yourself. People can sense when you’re being inauthentic, and it turns them off. So just be yourself and let your personality shine through.

Create Valuable Content

It’s not enough to just post anything. Your content needs to be valuable and interesting if you want people to stick around.

To create valuable content, Amanda recommends thinking about what your audience wants and needs. What information or resources can you provide that would be helpful or interesting to them?. The more value you can provide, the more likely people are to follow you and engage with your content.

Promote Your Content Through Paid Ads

Organic reach is getting harder and harder to come by on social media, so if you want to get your content seen, you need to be willing to invest in paid ads.

Paid ads can be a great way to reach new people and get your content in front of a larger audience. But it’s important to remember that not all paid ads are created equal. You need to experiment with different ad types and strategies to see what works best for you and your goals.

Engage With Your Audience

“It’s not enough to just post your content and hope people will see it,” says Amanda. “You need to be actively engaged with your audience if you want to build a strong connection with them.”

This means responding to comments, liking, and sharing other people’s content, and joining in on conversations. The more you engage with your audience, the more likely they are to stick around and follow you.

Use Analytics

The best way to measure your success on social media is to use analytics. Most platforms have built-in analytics tools that you can use to track your progress and see how your content is performing.

You can also use third-party analytics tools, such as Google Analytics or Social Blade, to get more detailed insights into your social media performance. This information can be really helpful in understanding what’s working and what’s not.

South Asian Women’s Leadership Resources

If you’re looking for more resources on South Asian women’s leadership, Amanda recommends checking out the South Asian Women’s Leadership Forum, South Asian Women in Leadership, and South Asians Leading Together. These are all great organizations that offer helpful resources and support for South Asian women leaders.

No Goal is Impossible to Achieve

South Asian executive women have so much to offer the world, and we believe that social media is a great way to share their voices and stories. Building a successful social media presence takes time, effort, and persistence, but it’s so worth it when you see the impact it can have on your career and business. We hope Amanda’s tips will help you build your brand and reach your goals.
