Managing the Weekends and Task Batching

How I ensure my weekends have adventure, beauty and efficiency

Each week, my boxing trainer asks me “What do you have planned this weekend, Joya?” knowing full well I’m always hatching something up. Each weekend, I have one ‘anchor event’ planned. It divides up the expanse of the hours. It eliminates the bickering and decision making fatigue. It allows for the magic of anticipation to kick in and It gives both me and my partner something to look forward to.

Time management author @LauraVanderkam has spoken at my women’s leadership program twice and coined the term ‘anchor event.’ An anchor event is not an event I need to do, like cleaning out my closet and laundry. It’s an event I WANT TO DO. What’s more, it gives me something to look forward to.

I also look for opportunities to ‘batch tasks.’ We live in Brooklyn now, so I plan the number of visits I make into the city on an average week. I planned to wear a pink dress to the brunch. I planned to leave our house two hours before the brunch. This way I could pick up my headband in Soho, and hit the flower and chocolate shop on the short walk to Tribeca.

What did you do this weekend?

I head up an executive women’s leadership program. I teach leadership through powerful public speaking. Enroll in my public speaking masterclass for 7 corporate women, now filling for the April 28th cohort. www.joyadass.com or info@ladydrinks.com
